Scan of a red fabric bag featuring the words “Escritoras Urbanas” in bold white lettering inspired by graffiti and pixo typography from Belo Horizonte. The angular, hand-drawn letterforms contrast with the red background, with a small decorative symbol integrated into the lettering. Designed by Izabela Santiago exclusively for Sitti Design.

Izabela Santiago [creative director & graphic designer]

When I wanted to explore visual arts in 2024, Escritoras Urbanas opened its doors for my experimental design to become paintings.

Two years later, I return to the project as Art Director of the new training cycle, with the challenge of turning street tags
into a commercially attractive product.

Researching the history and social context the project is embedded in showed me that the visuals needed to reflect where they came from: the streets of Belo Horizonte.

References used included the lettering from graffiti writers' rolinhos (tag rolls) like Goma, and the street textures painted by artists like Tefa, Gal, and Eneri.
